On October 7, 2025, Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo opened in Kabutocho, the historic financial district of Nihonbashi, Tokyo—marking the brand’s second property in Japan and its first in Tokyo.
More than just “a place to stay,” the hotel aims to serve as the neighborhood’s living room—a space where travelers, locals, and the city gently connect.

What is Caption by Hyatt?

Caption by Hyatt is Hyatt Hotels Corporation’s next-generation lifestyle brand. Launched in 2022 in Memphis, USA, the brand entered Asia with “Caption by Hyatt Nakanoshima Osaka” in 2023, followed by Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo—Japan’s second and Tokyo’s first Caption property.
How it differs from other Hyatt brands
| Category | Brand | Characteristics | Target Guests |
|---|---|---|---|
| LUXURY | Park Hyatt | Serene, art-forward ultra-luxury | High-end / affluent travelers |
| LIFESTYLE | Andaz | Design hotel that immerses you in local culture | Design- and city-minded travelers |
| INCLUSIVE | Hyatt Zilara | Adults-only, all-inclusive resort | Couples / resort seekers |
| CLASSICS | Grand Hyatt | Full-service luxury in world cities | International business & urban travelers |
| ESSENTIALS | Caption by Hyatt | Community-driven, casual, social | Younger guests, nomads, locality-minded |
Among Hyatt’s brands, Caption is the most community-oriented. Stepping away from the traditional hotel format, it aspires to be a neighborhood hub where stay, work, socializing, and cultural exchange blend together.

Three Highlights
1. Design & concept that bridge the neighborhood and its culture
Kabutocho is a historic financial district known as “Japan’s Wall Street.” Recent redevelopment has brought galleries and cafés, turning it into a fresh cultural hotspot.
At Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo, the district’s character is expressed through architecture, art, and materials. Guestrooms follow four themes—BRIDGE / COMMUNITY / OLD & NEW / FUTURE—blending wood and traditional textures with modern design to evoke a coexistence of past and future.
Upper floors look out toward Nihonbashi and Tokyo Bay, while suites separate the living area from the bedroom.

2. “Talk Shop” that gently connects city and people
Instead of a conventional lobby, the hotel centers on “Talk Shop,” an all-day hangout. It is a coffee stand in the morning, coworking by day, and a bar at night—welcoming not only guests but also neighbors and creators as the neighborhood’s living room.
Spatial design is by Mitchell & Eades (Australia), with touches that spark serendipitous encounters and conversations. Whether you’re traveling or in your daily routine, it’s a place to feel at ease at your own pace.

3. Commitment to sustainable stays
The hotel pursues eco-conscious operations: eliminating bottled water and installing water stations around the property. Single-use amenities are provided on a request basis so that only what’s needed is used.
The building employs a hybrid structure incorporating wood, delivering a rare “warmth-of-wood” sustainable design for an urban hotel.

Neighborhood
Kabutocho is the birthplace of Japan’s modern finance, home to the Tokyo Stock Exchange and other institutions. In recent years it has evolved from a “business district” into a “culture district,” with cafés, galleries, and boutiques.
Strolling the neighborhood reveals a unique blend of history and modernity. It’s one of Tokyo’s most rapidly transforming areas—perfect for both a hotel stay and city walks.
