Hilton’s Pinnacle of Luxury Arrives in Kuala Lumpur
Hilton’s most prestigious brand, Waldorf Astoria, is finally making its debut in Malaysia’s capital city, Kuala Lumpur.
The project is a complete redevelopment of the historic site where the former Hotel Istana once stood—reborn as a new symbol of luxury blending tradition and innovation. It is one of the most anticipated hotel developments in Southeast Asia’s luxury hospitality market.
Located in the heart of the Golden Triangle / Bukit Bintang district, the hotel sits among Kuala Lumpur’s most iconic landmarks, including the Petronas Twin Towers and Pavilion Mall, offering an ideal base for both business and leisure travelers.

Three Key Highlights
1. All-Suite Luxury
The Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur will feature 279 all-suite guest rooms, each designed with a sense of refined residential comfort.
Even the smallest suites span an impressive 76 square meters, offering distinct living and sleeping areas to evoke the feeling of a private residence.
Ceilings rise up to five meters high, and the top floor will feature a Presidential Suite with an open courtyard—providing a serene retreat from the vibrant city below.
2. Modern Design Rooted in Malay Culture
The design is led by the internationally acclaimed LW Design (Hong Kong), which skillfully weaves Islamic geometric patterns and traditional Malay textiles such as Songket into a contemporary interior aesthetic.
In the lobby, the brand’s signature “Meet Me Under the Clock” will greet guests, honoring Waldorf’s timeless heritage.
The interplay of light, shadow, and natural materials transforms the atmosphere from day to night, creating a space where each moment feels like a living artwork.

3. A Culinary and Social Destination
The hotel will offer 3,390 square meters of meeting and event space, including a 1,845-square-meter Grand Ballroom—making it an ideal venue for weddings, galas, and conferences.
The signature Peacock Alley, an icon of the Waldorf brand, will be complemented by 5–8 restaurants and bars featuring global and local cuisine. From fine dining to vibrant lounges, the hotel will become a new hub for culinary excellence in Kuala Lumpur.

Project Overview
The Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur is being developed on the site of the former Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur, a landmark property that closed in 2021 after nearly 30 years of operation.
Project Background
From Istana to Waldorf Astoria
The original Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur opened in 1992 and served as a beloved icon along Jalan Raja Chulan for nearly three decades.
It officially ceased operations on September 1, 2021.
The redevelopment is being led by Tradewinds Corporation Berhad, which partnered with Hilton to bring the Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur to life (Hilton press release, August 2022).
The new project represents a full redevelopment—not a renovation—combining modern luxury design with Malay cultural elements to redefine urban hospitality.
